A Murrieta hair salon will offer discounted haircuts on Sunday, Oct. 4, with all proceeds going toward holiday gifts and clothing for children whose parents are incarcerated.
LuvLiez Salon, at 40557 California Oaks Road, Suite H2, will host the Haircut-A-Thon from 1 to 4 p.m. First-time customers can get a cut for $25 (adults) or $16 (children 10 and younger). Hairstylists and a barber are donating their time, according to a Murrieta Chamber of Commerce news release.
The afternoon will also feature music and prize giveaways.
Proceeds will go to Community Outreach Ministry, a Wildomar-based nonprofit that provides camping trips, mentoring and holiday celebrations for children of incarcerated parents. The organization accepts referrals through Angel Tree, a Prison Fellowship program, as well as through Riverside 211 and local schools and churches.
The event doubles as a donation drop-off. Organizers are collecting new clothing and unopened toys for children ages 1 to 18. Those items will be wrapped and distributed as Christmas gifts on behalf of incarcerated parents, The Press-Enterprise reported.
Ron Umali, a retired U.S. Navy Master Chief affiliated with Century 21 Real Estate, is among the sponsors backing the event alongside LuvLiez Salon and its stylists.
Families attending can also pick up free child identification kits modeled after the McGruff Take A Bite Out of Crime ID Kit. Each kit includes space for fingerprints, height and a current photograph. Free parenting-tip booklets from the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) will be available in English and Spanish, covering topics such as bullying, drugs and neighborhood safety. Crime prevention coloring books will be handed out while supplies last.
Donated gifts and clothing collected at the Haircut-A-Thon will be distributed at Community Outreach Ministry's 26th Annual Angel Tree Christmas Party on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Gateway Church of the Nazarene, 23560 Jefferson Ave., Murrieta.
