Rain is heading for Murrieta on Halloween weekend, with the National Weather Service forecasting showers beginning as early as Friday night and lasting through Sunday.

A lowering jet stream will drag moisture from a storm system in the Pacific Northwest into Riverside County by Friday, Oct. 30, according to Patch, citing a City News Service report. Rainfall is expected to pick up Saturday, Oct. 31, and continue periodically into Sunday night, Nov. 1.

The NWS said in a statement that the chance of 1 inch or more of rainfall from Saturday morning through Sunday night is greater than 40% for areas from the coast to the mountains.

The NWS point forecast for Murrieta, updated Oct. 27, calls for a partly sunny Friday with a high near 69 degrees. Friday night brings a slight chance of showers after 11 p.m. and a low around 54 degrees.

Saturday's outlook calls for a chance of showers after 11 a.m. and a high of 66 degrees. Showers become likely Saturday night, mainly after 11 p.m., with a low around 54 degrees. Sunday holds a chance of showers with a high near 66 degrees.

Temperatures across the inland region will drop 10 to 15 degrees below normal by Friday, the NWS said. The Temecula Valley temperature band is expected to closely match the Riverside metro area's, with highs in the mid-60s Friday through Sunday, according to the Press-Enterprise.

No flood watches or wind warnings had been posted as of Monday, Oct. 26. Forecasters do not expect Tropical Storm Vance to affect Southern California.

NWS meteorologist Rose Schoenfeld urged families to prepare but not cancel plans. "Have a little bit of a backup plan if it gets too rainy that it stops being fun, but we're certainly not saying to shut down Halloween," Schoenfeld said, according to the Press-Enterprise.

For trick-or-treaters heading out Saturday evening, weather experts recommend bringing an umbrella, bringing an extra layer and driving with extra caution, the Press-Enterprise reported.

Dry weather and more seasonal temperatures are expected to return early next week. The NWS Murrieta forecast shows Monday, Nov. 2, sunny with a high near 71 degrees.
