Murrieta needs volunteers to plant 2,026 American flags at Town Square Park for the 18th annual Field of Honor.
The display honors veterans, military service members, first responders and teachers. Each full-sized flag can be sponsored to recognize a specific hero or loved one, Patch reported. The flag count matches the calendar year.
The event runs Saturday, Nov. 7 through Saturday, Nov. 14, according to the Press Enterprise and the city's official Instagram post. The City of Murrieta organizes the Field of Honor in partnership with the Rotary Club of Murrieta and the Rotary Club of Old Town Temecula.
Individuals, families, corporate groups and high school students looking to earn community service hours can all sign up to help. A volunteer sign-up page is available through SignUpGenius on the city's event listing.
The city called the display a patriotic tribute to the strength and unity of Americans and invited families across the region to walk the field and sponsor a flag for a loved one.
The Field of Honor is a registered licensed event of the Colonial Flag Foundation. This is the event's 18th year in Murrieta.
The Rotary clubs also accepted hero nominations for individuals to be featured during the event and in a Field of Honor magazine. For 2026, nominees had to be U.S. military veterans or first responders who served in a U.S. community and current Riverside County residents. The nomination window closed Sept. 7. The event has drawn broad community participation in past years. In November 2023, Murrieta Valley Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Ward Andrus wrote on X that all of the district's fifth graders attended the Field of Honor that year, learning about the history of the flag and those who served.
