The Murrieta Arts Council wrapped its Halloween Art Contest in October, a community event that invited local artists to create original Halloween-themed works and let neighbors pick the winners.

Community members viewed the submitted artwork and voted for their favorites, according to the council's event page. The contest drew a range of styles. Sue Allen, a MAC board member who authored the event recap, wrote that submissions "showcased imagination, artistic talent, and the creative spirit of our community."

The MAC announced winners on its Instagram account on Oct. 16, thanking everyone who submitted art, voted and came out to support local artists. The organization did not publicly name the winners or their pieces in the posts reviewed.

The contest is the latest in a string of community programming from the volunteer-driven nonprofit. Earlier in 2026, the MAC hosted a mixer that brought together painters, muralists, musicians, writers and other creatives, according to the council's website. That event, held at The Alleyway in downtown Murrieta, led several attendees to sign up as volunteers for future MAC programs.

Casey Jurado co-founded the Murrieta Arts Council in 2015 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, according to the organization's about page. Under his leadership, the MAC built partnerships with groups including the Cal Chamber Orchestra, Academy of Ballet Arts and Murrieta Unified School District. In 2024, Jurado spearheaded an Arts in Public Places Policy that was formally submitted to the Murrieta City Council.

The MAC's stated mission is to encourage and support endeavors that enhance arts and culture in the Murrieta Valley. The organization says it provides opportunities for local artists and performers and works to keep the arts accessible to all residents.

The council is accepting applications for its board of directors, according to its homepage. Residents interested in the MAC's upcoming events or board openings can visit macarts.org.
